Funny, full of laughter and a brilliant new mother

WHEN Jade Greco was sick in the middle of the night, the 29-year-old mum thought she had picked up the bug that had been going round the family.

But nine hours later she was dying, leaving her 11-month old daughter without a mother.

Doctors still do not know what killed Mrs Greco so suddenly on Thursday, January 19.

But today her family pay loving tribute to the “bubbly,” “happy” and “funny” young woman who adored her little girl Freya.

Antonio Greco told the Evening Post how his wife, who had type one diabetes, was not feeling well at their home in Southmead in the early hours of the day she died.

She was sick at about 1am, and at about 9am called her mum Lin Jenkins at work complaining she also had a chest pain, before asking if Mrs Jenkins could look after Freya.

A short while later, Mr Greco told her to have a shower and go back to bed, where he would bring her some tablets and a glass of water.

But when he returned to the bedroom at about 9.45am she was unconscious.

The 35-year-old barber said: “She called out to say she had finished in the shower.

“When I went back up she was in bed. I looked at her and she was blue. I phoned the ambulance straight away and they told me how to resuscitate her.

“I kept doing that until there were about six paramedics in the bedroom trying to save her.

“She was taken to the Bristol Royal Infirmary and we were told she only had half an hour to live.”

The initial post-mortem examination proved inconclusive and more tests are being carried out to find out why Mrs Greco died. An inquest into her death will also be held.

Mrs Greco was born to Linda and Paul Jenkins at Bristol Maternity Hospital on November 15, 1982.

She went to St Stephen’s Infant and Junior schools before attending Kingsfield secondary school.

For eight years, she worked at Marks and Spencer in Broadmead with her mum and later spent four years on reception at Southmead’s radiology department.

She married Antonio at St Bonaventure’s Church, Henleaze, in August 2006.

Freya was born at Southmead Hospital on February 3, 2011. She also leaves younger brother Luke, 26.

“Jade was funny and full of laughter,” said Mrs Jenkins. “With her diabetes, she didn’t think she would fall pregnant, but all she ever wanted was to have kids.

“She loved children and was a brilliant mother for those 11 months,” added the 47 year old, of Forest Road, Kingswood.

“We have so many lovely memories of her that we’ll never forget.”

As well as doting over her family, Mrs Greco enjoyed walking the couple’s cocker spaniel, Holly.

Mr Greco said: “Jade was bubbly, funny, always having a laugh and joking. She had a big heart, she loved life and always tried to live every day.

“She adored our daughter, who was our life. It was Freya’s first Christmas so I filmed her opening her presents in front of Jade.

“When she’s older I’ll show her that video so she can see what her mum was like. But Freya will have the whole family around her telling her about Jade.”

Mrs Greco’s funeral will be held at St Bonaventure’s at 11am on February 1, followed by a private burial, then onto the St Silas British Legion club in Meriton Street, St Philip’s.

Donations are welcome to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU ) at Southmead Hospital, c/o R Davis & Son, 381 Gloucester Road, Horfield, Bristol, BS7 8TN.

It’s Inside Knowledge

We are all taught how to look at something and then mimic what we see. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, after all, it is how we learn to read and write, walk, or bake a cake. However, the day must come when we change our viewpoint and ask, “What is the intent behind this, and how does it fit with mine,” because then and only then, do we have ultimate control over our situation, no matter what it is.
